‘Pharma resistance’ to battle superbugs
A group of pharmaceutical giants, biotech companies, industry peak bodies and the CSIRO have banded together to form an alliance to combat the “market failure” that inhibits the development of novel antibiotics to fight superbugs.
The Australian Antimicrobial Resistance Network — known as AAMRNet — will work to secure reforms aimed at incentivising antibiotic research and development in the face of an escalating crisis in which modern medicine is running out of options to treat drug-resistant infections.
